IMDP training continues after the courses through individualised action plans. By creating action plans, course training can be transferred to a participant’s work to help ensure a greater impact and retention of knowledge.

Before the end of a course, each participant crafts a plan of action to be implemented after completion of a course once they return to their places of work. The action plan draws from the training the participant has undergone and transfers that information directly to the participant’s organisation upon return. Action plans help ensure that training not only benefits the participants, but also the participants’ colleagues and peers in their home countries.

The below model demonstrates the step-by-step process that participants undergo when crafting an action plan during a course. Mentor monitoring of action plans is available to all participants after a course to help with the implementation process. Participants are also encouraged to upload their plans online so that others may learn from their experiences, and that successes and challenges may be discussed to further improve action plan outcomes.
