• Dr. Marta Angueira

    Marta Angueira is a physician by training working in tobacco control as a coordinator for the Prevention and Tobacco Control Programme with the government of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Over the past few years, she has attended all of The Union IMDP courses for tobacco control.

    For years her organisation has been working to pass a city law in Buenos Aires that would make all public and work places 100% smoke free. “The main challenge we faced was to keep the proposed 100% smoke free city law relevant in the minds of society and government personnel,” she said.

  • Elena Agafonova

    Elena Agafonova is the head of the Arkhangelsk Regional Centre for medical prevention. In her work, she focuses on identifying strategies to lower the prevalence of health risks to the public. She attended the IMDP course on Management and Leadership specific to officials working in tobacco control.

  • Dr. Enang Oyama

    Dr. Enang Oyama works with the World Health Organization focusing on TB and leprosy control in Nigeria. He attended the IMDP’s course on Influencing, Networking and Collaboration. He shared with us how his IMDP training has influenced outcomes in his work.

    “I work as a national professional officer supporting the national TB and leprosy control programme in Nigeria. One of the challenges I face in my work is coordinating the interests of various organisations while implementing TB control activities in the country.

  • Dr. Natalia Celauro

    Dr. Natalia Celauro is president of the organisation Tobacco Free in Asunción, Paraguay. She has attended two of The Union’s IMDP courses: Management of Managers and Human Resources Management. One of the main objectives she is working towards at Tobacco Free is to promote tobacco control initiatives that demonstrate the effects tobacco can have on public health in order to prevent its use. During her training, she met with other health officials working in tobacco control and together they studied how to improve their organisations through enhancing their managerial abilities.

  • Dr. Amgalan Badamjav

    Health professionals from across the globe come together for The Union’s IMDP course on Strategic Planning and Innovation to gain training on how to develop strategy for health programmes and exchange ideas with peers working in similar health fields. One past attendee was Dr. Amgalan Badamjav who was working as a Communicable Diseases Specialist with World Vision, Mongolia.

  • Dr Nay Htut Ko Ko

    Dr Nay Htut Ko Ko is a Health Specialist for World Vision, Myanmar. He attended the IMDP course on Leading Management Teams, and he shared with us how he has been using his training in his daily work.

    “My daily routine at work is communicating with my TB implementing teams, monitoring and evaluation, and strengthening donor relationships. The core responsibility that I have is to effectively support a TB project that is being implemented in five townships in Myanmar. I also look after projects in malaria and HIV, but TB is my main project.

  • Dr. Feiying Liu

    Dr. Feiying Liu is the chief of the TB Division in the Guangxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China. She attended the first IMDP course on Influencing, Networking and Collaboration. We spoke with her about her work and the effects the training has had in it.

    “TB is a major problem in China. The number of TB patients is the second highest in the world. So it is a big public health problem. I am in charge of tuberculosis control for all of Guangxi province and some of my work consists of training, supervision, and health education.

  • Dr. Nii Nortey Hanson-Nortey

    Dr. Nii Nortey Hanson-Nortey is a deputy programme manager for Ghana’s national TB control programme. Recently he discussed with us changes that he has brought to his workplace since his training with the IMDP.

  • Dr. Dance Gudeva Nikovska

    Dr. Dance Gudeva Nikovska is a coordinator of GFATM funded projects for TB control with the ministry of health in Macedonia. She spoke with us about how she applied her IMDP training in her organisation.

    “I coordinate the tuberculosis component of the Global Fund grant my country has received which includes managing sub-recipient activity and coordinating grant funds among the sub-grants which are spread out across three ministries of health and seven NGOs. I also prepare reports for donors on a quarterly basis in order to meet funding requirements.

  • Dr. Sher Shah Amin

    Dr. Sher Shah Amin is a deputy programme manager for BRAC Afghanistan. He talked with us about the effects his IMDP training has had in his work.

    “I’ve worked with BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) in Afghanistan since 2002. I work in different areas such as supervising field workers, policy planning, acting as a liaison with the ministry of health and donors, doing staff appraisals, coordinating different health projects, and representing the organisation at various forums.
